Week of Flash Fiction, Day 1: Leaves

Strange leaves appeared among the trees in the park, 

their jewel tones setting them apart

from the ordinary shades of green.

People of the city rejoiced

in those moments, 

as the leaves swirled around them, 

because magic was real. 

People of the city rejoiced

until the leaves latched onto their skin

and began to feed.
